History Of Small Notebook Computers

February 16th, 2010 g33rhead No comments

Technical inventions represent the fundamental structure of our modern world. Technology remains basic and we seem to be lost without it. A clear example of the technical addiction is the use of the PC. So far laptops and notebooks are the latest achievements in the field of computers, and they are undeniably conquering more users every day. When discussing about laptops, which are also called small notebook computers, we actually mean small PCs for mobile use.

We can virtually retrieve all the basic components in laptops from desktops. Thus, laptops include the display, the keyboard, a pointing device – touchpad or pointing stick, and the battery. The advantage of laptops is that they make one single unit that comprises all the other items, allowing for easy maneuvers and lots of mobility. The batteries are the main distinction and individual feature specific to laptops, but the recharging mode is carried out through an AC/DC adapter that allows extensive functionality.

The very name of notebooks comes from the thin shape and small size of these computers. Laptops are usually 0.7 – 1.5 inches thick and their dimensions range from 10×8 inches (13 inch display) to 15×11 inches (17 inch display) or up. Furthermore, laptops are built light, weighing between 3 and 12 pounds. Last but not least, the flipping feature allows for a good protection of the screen and makes portability possible.

Personal computers were produced for the first time at the beginning of the 1970s and not long after those years the idea of portable PCs – laptops, appeared. The person who imagined this was Alan Kay of Xerox PARC. In 1972 took shape as a project under the name of Dynabook. The first laptops were available on the market only in 1981. The Osborne 1 and then, in the same year, the Epson HX-20 were the first portable computers commercially available. Since then laptops have developed and become more and more proficient.

Unfortunately, there are downsides to the use of laptops too. First we need to see the good parts to be able to investigate the flaws. The main and most important good bit about laptops is evidently their portability. Moreover, laptops have the ability to work on battery power in the event of a power outage. The cheapest laptop computer is also more economical and does not produce as much heat as desktop computers do. Compatibility and standardization are the main flaws of laptops today. In spite of some international standards for the making of the elements for the peripherals and add-in PC cards in desktop computers, the processor and hard driver manufacturing part does not fall subject to any international regulation yet.

PC Laptop Computers – Light, Effecient, and Quick

February 9th, 2010 g33rhead No comments

If you look back 10 to 15 years ago, you will see that pc laptop computers have changed dramatically. Cheap laptop computers are now available that are low in price but high in power and features. Because of the affordability, it is no wonder that millions of people own one or more laptops. Best of all, laptops can be used for college work, business, to stay in touch with family or friends, or to enjoy online gaming. While you could go with one of the larger designs, keep in mind that you also have multiple choices for smaller computer designs.

Some of the changes seen over the years include pc laptop computers being designed as smaller, more powerful, and faster systems that are also loaded with state-of-the-art features. Having all of this packed into a small computer makes it highly portable. Then, with a built-in mouse, keyboard, and webcam, functionality is compact. Even the battery design is unique, being made to last longer than batteries from 10 years prior. Depending on the brand and style, some PC laptop computers can also burn CDs and DVDs.

A small number of people still prefer the desktop computer but with pc laptop computers now offering so much, most people switch. With these small devices being so easy to carry, they are the ideal option for young people going to college, business executives who travel often, or anyone that loves traveling for vacation. Then, with wireless technology, any place with a nearby router provides access to the internet such as a local restaurant or coffee shop, hotel room, conference center, airport terminal, and so on. Because of the new battery design, you can also work on the computer plugged in or simply run off battery power.

Today, PC laptop computers are made in a variety of sizes and weights, which adds to their benefit. As an example, the smaller sizes are a mere 10×8 inches, featuring a 13-inch monitor while the larger laptops have a 17-inch monitor with the computer being just 15×11 inches. Computers are also much thinner than ever before, being designed between 0.7 and 1.5 inches.

Laptops have always had a close down lid design, which is intentional. With the lid down, the keyboard, mouse, and monitor are protected from spills, impact, and dust. In fact, some lids simply close while others are designed with locks. The weight of PC laptop computers has also changed significantly. Years ago, laptops were extremely heavy but now, they weigh 12 pounds or less, making it easy to carry them around.

PC laptop computers, which stands for “personal computer”, means the design is for people on the go. The concept was first introduced in 1970 but it lacked sophistication. Then just two years later, the Dynabook was developed, an improvement but not by much. Even in 1982 when the Epson HX-20 and Osborne-1 were introduced, they were better but still lacking. In addition to being heavy and cumbersome, these earlier computers were very costly.

Today’s design is unique and innovative, which has helped increase the sales of PC laptop computers. Just because new computers are not as heavy, they are smaller, and the cost is lower does not mean that power and speed capabilities are compromised. As an added bonus, instead of paying $6,000 or more like you would have 20 years ago, you can get a quality computer for $700 or less.

Remember, just because the price of PC laptop computers has decreased does not mean you have less power, speed, or features, in fact, it is just the opposite. Therefore, no matter the reason for using the laptop, work, school, or personal use, you will love the portability. Just having all the power and incredible features whenever and wherever needed is why PC laptop computers are so amazing.

Comparing pc laptop computers of today with those from 10 years ago is almost comical. Thanks to advancement in technology, computers are now much easier to operate and they provide more convenience. Therefore, if you use a computer while on business, at college, or you like to take a computer with you while taking a vacation, the options today are amazing. Most people will choose the standard type of laptop but the notebook is another great option, which again, is much smaller and even lighter in weight. However, the notebook offers better portability than a standard laptop.

Looking at PC laptop computers now being sold, you cannot help but be in awe. For one thing, computers are lighter and while not all have had much change, the amount of power now offered and the incredible speed when on the internet is without doubt astonishing.

Even though people all look for something different, having a computer with a web cam, built-in keyboard and mouse, battery that lasts longer, DVD/CD burning drive, and wireless technology means you get everything needed and more.

Of course, you could stick with a desktop computer, which still works great, but the mobility and built-in features associated with PC laptop computers make them the favorite choice. This means you can take the computer wherever you go and have internet connection, allowing you to email, handle business meetings, or simply play online games.

As long as your computer has wireless technology, you can be connected to the internet from your hotel room, the airport or even while lounging by the pool or on the beach. To save battery life, you would simply use a nearby electrical outlet and then work online just as you would from home.

PC laptop computers have even changed in size. Today, the smaller options are about 10×8 inches that comes with a 13-inch monitor but if you like a more normal size, then you could go with a 15×11-inch computer with a 17-inch monitor. Along with the actual computer being smaller, these laptops are also thinner.

One the thicker side, computers are 1.5 inches and on the smaller side, just 0.7 inches. Thanks to the thinner design, even the weight of today’s computers has decreased, adding the mobility and convenience.
