Computers have become an important part of everyday life. Most things done of the computer are now part of the monotony of every morning. At one time throughout the day, nearly every person in each age range interacts with a computer. Computers are now customary tools in countless households and is unquestionably a required instrument in any office be it private companies or government institutions. While it is a common tool it is also an expensive one and is therefore prone to attention from unsavory elements. This is the reason why computer’s need to be secured and computer cable locks sound and efficient way to protect your computer and personal data.

A computer cable lock system is made up of several components and the laptop security devices is one of the primary pieces. The use of security cables is not distinctive to this mechanism. Security cables, a.k.a. cable locks are found in use to protect a variety of pieces of personal property. Its popularity stems from its deceptively elevated challenge to fail although it appears thin and weak.

The mechanism also brackets. These allow just one cable to join the components of your computer together. These fasteners may not be needed if your computer has preexisting steel holes. If your computer and it’s other pieces lack these steel holes then you’ll need to fasten the plates on the equipment using superglue. Next the cable should be threaded though each component and then the end can be locked to a security anchor. The cables are protected using either a combination padlock or a key type padlock. Commonly cable lock systems with a combination entry are most affordable and systems with keys cost a bit more as for the user’s convenience there are different options to secure or lock the system. They come in a keyed-alike option or a 1 key per kit option. Keyed-different and master-keyed both offer two keys per kit. The system’s flexibility is essential in linking several components with one system.

The popular lock brands in the market usually have a basic set priced as low as $20 to $40 depending on the thickness of the security cable, the number of security plates and the kind of lock.

Looking For A Cheap Laptop

February 24th, 2010 g33rhead No comments

Finding a cheap laptop is not necessarily an exercise in forbearance, but rather a combination of knowing what one wants and the fortitude it takes to shop around and do a little background research. It also helps if one is willing to accept a last generation model or a factory refurbished unit still under warranty by the manufacturer and/or vendor.

In order to determine what one wants out of laptops, they have to perform an honest analysis of their needs. Do they need to burn DVDs very often? If not, then forgo the DVD burning option. Do they need to play games? If that is not how it is, then you might consider going with an integrated graphics solution. Does one really need an ultra-fast CPU, or would a lower grade CPU get the job done only a few seconds slower? The gigabytes of RAM necessary for running applications on the cheap laptop are necessary? It is easy to keep on slashing the specifications. Remember, this is an exercise in frugality, not an attempt to cobble together the crummiest system on the face of the planet. If its important, then you must consider it.

Once an honest appraisal is complete, one can then start hunting for a cheap laptop that meets these requirements. Some manufacturers are able to give dissounts online and also on refurbished models. There are also deals to be had at retailers such as Best-Buy and Walmart, though one should be wary of purchasing a cheap laptop that has an insufficient warranty or lacks a popular operating system.
On the subject of software, one might consider cheap laptops that run Linux. Though these laptops are far cheaper than Windows powered laptops, they can sometimes be only suitable for basic web browsing. An honest assessment of software related needs is important at this juncture as well.
There may also be good deals on second hand laptops via local computer stores as well as online auction houses such as eBay. As long as warranty is not an issue, customers can consider second hand laptops too.

There is an old expression that is used throughout the computing industry: that which makes no difference is no difference. Factory refurbished models are easily bought by consumers who may not be interested in the latest models. As an example, at the time of this writing there are sheik MacBook Airs available for under $1000 with factory warranties directly from Apple’s own online store. They may not be as fast as the current models, but they still look nice and are probably capable of performing any task that the current generation MacBook Air can for at least $500 less.

The Best Laptop Deals

February 16th, 2010 g33rhead No comments

Finding the greatest laptop deals on the market requires knowing where to look, being diligent, and knowing what one wants. The last is the easiest subject to start with, and provides the best jumping off point in the search for ideal laptops that won’t break the bank.

The easiest piece of advice to give but the hardest to truly accomplish is to write up a needs and wants list and only look for laptops that fall someplace between those two specifications. That does not mean rejecting other deals that come along, that would be foolish, but it does mean not actively wasting time searching through higher end products that do not meet one’s computing needs. Consider storage requirements, memory needs, computing horsepower, disc reading and/or burning needs, warranty, bundled software, and graphics power.

The flip side of the ‘do not buy too much’ coin is to not get carried away with slashing specs. This will invariably lead to purchasing an underpowered laptop that is destined to be replaced and/or forgotten quickly. Factor in a slight overhead if one thinks that they will be upgrading software in the future; software upgrades almost always increase their hardware requirements incrementally. A little padding to one’s specifications can ensure that they end up with a longer lasting investment, not an expensive paperweight.

laptop deals vary on where one looks and when one looks. Oddly enough. looking at smaller computer stores is generally not worth a frugal laptop hunter’s time. Instead, you could try large chain stores that can afford to buy in vast quantities. BestBuy, Walmart, and Target all have electronics sections, and they generally cater to those specifically looking for bargains.

It pays to understand how large retailers handle their laptop sales. They typically claim to offer the best laptop deals around the holiday season and the back to school season, but that claim may or may not actually be borne out by fact. If holiday says are bleak, they will end up with a supply of laptops that are clogging their store shelves and warehouses that they need to liquidate before new models arrive with better specs at the same price point. The result is usually a no holds barred clearance sale where discounts are deep and laptop deals are nearly as good as they can possibly get. It is also possible to shop in this fashion online from major laptop vendors directly. Most of the well known brands like Dell, HP, Compaq and Apple sell computers online directly without the middle man. Sometimes, these companies are better off promoting their present stock at heavy discounts than delaying the latest models. Furthermore, these major computer companies also offer amazing deals on factory refurbished laptops. These units have been re-certified, and often carry factory warranties equivalent to that of ‘new’ laptops. Diligence and patience are both virtues. The best laptop deals are unlikely to be found without a little digging around. Jumping at the first apparent deal is probably, but not always, a mistake.
